Remedial design for tunnel drainage pits, grates and kerbs in a live motorway tunnel.
Remedial structural engineering for the drainage pits, grates and kerbs inside the M1 Eastern Distributor tunnel. Years of heavy traffic and an aggressive tunnel environment had left concrete pit walls and surrounds cracked and spalled, and the grate seatings and kerbs needing reinstatement.
We assessed the condition of each element and designed the pit reconstruction, grate seating and kerb repairs with durable detailing suited to the tunnel. The scope was written so it could be priced and built inside short overnight closures, coordinated closely with the operator and the maintenance contractor to keep disruption to the motorway to a minimum.
