Investigation and remediation of spalling concrete in a chlorinated, wet environment.
Investigation and remediation of spalling concrete at the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre. A chlorinated, constantly wet environment is unforgiving on reinforced concrete, and the corrosion driving the spalling had to be understood before any repair could hold.
We assessed the reinforcement corrosion, developed a concrete-repair methodology and remedial design, and documented a scope that could be priced and delivered in stages around the centre's operations. Durable repair detailing was specified to extend the structure's service life, and we stayed on for site inspections through construction.
